When a child opens a book and finds their own language, their grandmother's stories or their family's holidays inside, something clicks. For Vietnamese-American students, those books can be hard to find, and for teachers, hard to source.
That's why we put together the Classroom Starter K–2 Book Bundle: 25 Vietnamese and Vietnamese–English bilingual books, chosen for children ages 5 to 8 and ready to ship as one set. It's designed for:
- Dual-language and immersion classrooms that need more Vietnamese reading material
- Heritage language classes for students who speak Vietnamese at home but are just learning to read it
- Newcomer and ESL programs welcoming Vietnamese-speaking families
- School and classroom libraries that want their shelves to reflect the families they serve
About 10 of the 25 books are bilingual or in English, so teachers who don't read Vietnamese can still use these books with confidence.
What's inside
1. Favorite picture books, now in Vietnamese (8 books)
Classroom classics your students may already know in English, which makes them a natural bridge between the two languages.

- Câu lạc bộ sách của Thỏ con – Bunny's Book Club (bilingual): a bunny who loves library story time so much that he finds his way into the library, a perfect way to introduce students to their school library.
- Chuyến đi dạo của cô gà mái Rosie – Rosie's Walk (bilingual): very few words and lots of position words, great for kindergarten.
- Nụ hôn trên bàn tay – The Kissing Hand: a gentle favorite for the first days of school.
- Ai cũng được đón chào – All Are Welcome: a celebration of a classroom where every child belongs.
- Năm phút nữa thôi – Five More Minutes (bilingual): a relatable everyday story for young readers.
- Kho tàng của bố – Loving Eyes (bilingual): a warm story about the bond between a parent and child.
- Nếu em là đêm – If You Were Night by Muon Thi Van (Văn Thị Mượn): a lyrical bedtime picture book about the natural world after dark, with striking paper-cut illustrations by Kelly Pousette.
- Thân gửi Sở thú – Dear Zoo: the lift-the-flap classic that the youngest readers love.
2. Vietnamese culture and folk tales (10 books)
This is where the set stands out: stories and traditions that are hard to find from mainstream book suppliers.

- Xưa ơi là xưa (3 books, bilingual): Vietnamese fairy tales told in both Vietnamese and English.
- Combo Phương ngữ Việt Nam – Vietnamese Regional Dialects (3 books): introduces children to Northern, Central and Southern ways of speaking, which is ideal for heritage learners whose families come from different regions.
- Tết tuổi thơ trọn bộ 4 cuốn: a collection of Lunar New Year stories for children and families across different regions of Vietnam
- Lunar New Year: One Holiday, Many Celebrations by Hien Le (in English): a book the whole class can read together, whatever language they speak at home.
- Bilingual Shadow Book – Sách chiếu bóng combo set 7 books: a bilingual folktale picture book designed for shadow storytelling, a memorable whole-class activity.
- Những truyện hay viết cho thiếu nhi – Bồ nông có hiếu: a picture-book edition of a classic Vietnamese children's story about caring for one's family.
3. Early literacy and discovery (7 books)

- Tập đánh vần tiếng Việt theo sơ đồ tư duy – Vietnamese First Phonics Book: a teacher-friendly tool for introducing Vietnamese letters, tones and spelling.
- Trắng mây tóc mẹ – Poems for Kids about Mother: short poems for reading aloud and memorizing.
- Cuốn sách lớn đầu tiên của tớ: Động vật – My First Big Book: Animals (National Geographic Kids, Vietnamese edition)
- Cuốn sách lớn đầu tiên của tớ: Những câu hỏi tại sao – My First Big Book: Why Questions (National Geographic Kids, Vietnamese edition)
- Bộ áo phi hành gia – The Astronaut's Suit (bilingual): science vocabulary in both languages.
- Trên và dưới – Above and Below: a large-format picture book that invites children to explore and talk.
- Gerda: Câu chuyện cá voi – The Story of Gerda the Whale: a picture book about a whale and the ocean.
How teachers can use the set
- Back to school: open the year with The Kissing Hand and All Are Welcome, read in both languages.
- Read-alouds that bridge languages: read a familiar story in English one day and in Vietnamese the next, and let students notice words they recognize.
- Phonics and early reading: use the phonics book for short daily practice, then let students find the letters and tones in the picture books.
- A cultural calendar: share the folk tales in the fall, the Lunar New Year books in late January (Tết falls on February 6, 2027), and the full set again for AAPI Heritage Month in May.
- Science centers: the National Geographic and Astronaut's Suit titles fit right into units on animals, space and asking questions.
- Family connections: send a book home and invite parents or grandparents to read it aloud, or to share their own version of a folk tale.
