Through accessible historical storytelling, the book helps readers follow the long journey of Vietnam through different periods, rulers, and national names. The book also touches on the evolution of the country’s names across history. During the Hồ Dynasty, the country was renamed Đại Ngu, meaning “Great Happiness.” In 1802, after defeating the Tây Sơn Dynasty, King Gia Long founded the Nguyễn Dynasty and established a unified government. In 1804, the country was officially named Việt Nam. Later, in 1838, King Minh Mạng renamed it Đại Nam.

Moving into the modern era, Vietnam became the Democratic Republic of Việt Nam after the August Revolution and National Independence Day in 1945. Following national reunification in 1975, the country has officially been known as the Socialist Republic of Việt Nam since 1976.
